Persian Cat - Traditional

Last Revised On: 26 Jul 2024

The Traditional Persian cat, also known as the Doll Face Persian, is characterized by its distinct appearance and gentle temperament. Here's a compiled breed standard for the Traditional Persian cat:

Breed Standard: Traditional Persian Cat

Head: The Traditional Persian cat boasts a round head with a gentle, well-defined break between the eyes and nose. The forehead is rounded and slightly domed, with no extreme flattening, allowing for a more natural, open facial expression.

Eyes: Large, round, and expressive eyes set wide apart, providing a sweet, open expression. Eye color should harmonize with coat color; blue, copper, green, or odd-eyed are acceptable.

Nose and Muzzle: The nose is short, broad, and in line with the eyes, maintaining balance with the facial structure. The muzzle is short, but not overly flattened, with well-developed whisker pads and a strong chin.

Ears: Small, rounded-tipped ears set widely apart, fitting harmoniously with the head structure. The inside of the ear is furnished with hair.

Body: The Traditional Persian cat has a medium to large, cobby body, with a broad chest and a well-rounded ribcage. The body structure is compact and well-proportioned.

Legs and Paws: Short, sturdy legs with rounded, firm paws. Tufted toes add to the cat's charm and complement the overall appearance.

Tail: Short, thick, and proportionate to the body, tapering to a rounded tip.

Coat: The hallmark of the Traditional Persian cat is its long, flowing coat. The coat is fine, soft, and silky, with a dense undercoat. The texture should be free from woolly or cottony undercoat, maintaining a natural, flowing appearance.

Color and Patterns: Traditional Persians come in various solid colors, bi-colors, and patterns, such as tabby, tortoiseshell, pointed, shaded, smoke, and Himalayan (color-point pattern with blue eyes).

Temperament: Traditional Persians are known for their gentle, placid temperament. They exhibit a calm and affectionate nature, thriving in serene environments and enjoying human companionship.

Grooming: Regular grooming, including daily brushing, is essential to maintain the Traditional Persian's exquisite coat and prevent matting.

Health: Like other Persian cats, the Traditional Persian may be prone to certain health issues, including respiratory and dental problems. Regular veterinary check-ups are crucial for their well-being.
